Practice Makes Perfect

Writer: Alexis RyanAlexis Ryan

When we first got Lino into the program - he was FLIGHTY. Flighty in the stall, flighty being hand walked, and don't even THINK about tying him up because he will 100% break off every single time. One of the good things about having a 'rehab' case in a horse like him, is it gives us plenty of time to work on the little (but SO important) things .. such as being a gentleman, hand walking around without pulling, standing tied without breaking free, standing to be groomed and for your feet to be picked, and standing to be tacked up. Well today was a rain day - and no better time than to put all of the components we've been practicing with Lino to the test.

He hand walked in from the rain like a super star, stood tied while I groomed him and picked all four feet, stood like a statue while I threw on my tack and then remained standing tied and tacked up while I cleaned up around the barn like a total pro. I'm really happy with how our time together has been panning out, and can't wait to restart him this weekend when the rain clears out.

Can anyone guess what else is a big one we'll have to work on with Lino? Yep - TRAILERING. I have not even tried to load him into our trailer since he's been here until he learned to lead properly and stand properly - but his track connections warned me he is NOT great loading up .. so to be continued, I shall update you all when the time comes LOL.

Here are some pis of big sexy standing and being a good big handsome boy for me this evening. ♥️
