And here - we - go!

Writer: Alexis RyanAlexis Ryan

Hello & welcome back to my blog -- I knew you couldn't stay away after watching me get bucked off last time, you dirt bag. I will pause here for you fucks who hate reading to present to you .. YOUTUBE VLOG NUMBER ONE 🎉 (woo) - no reading required (although I will say, I'm a better blogger than vlogger .. can't say I didn't warn you...)

Now for the rest of you - where do I begin this one? Vero = good boy at standing tied? WRONG. Vero = BAD BOY at standing tied ever since he apparently decided Mares > Mom in the form of a filly named Danica. This ends today. I have moved Vero, starting this week, into the paddock with my personal mare G-Money and my BEST boy Harold. UNFORTUNATELY, I have learned Vero swings both ways and is now obsessed with Harold... against Harold's will. Lucky for me, no budy sourness has continued on ever since the move. Point 1 for Lex - 3 for Vero.

Let me take a break here and tell you a bit about the herd dynamics he is entering here. Harold is the actual love of my life. He does no wrong, he is my first gelding I ever loved, and he is the only gelding I ever loved. With that being said, he has NO survival skills. Hot day? He's dead in the field. Cold day? He's also dead in the field. Abscess? Might as well euthanize him because he is dead... in the field... you get it. Yes, this is important - because as sensitive as Harold is, Vero is the exact opposite. Vero is a feral donkey who looks like a picture right out of a wild horse magazine. He wants to play, he wants to run around, he wants to fight -- Harold is having none of this. G-Money I have three words to describe - boss ass bitch. She doesn't have time for boys and to be honest, none will ever be good enough for her. She is a queen, an icon, and will leave you alone if you leave her alone... however... Vero did not get that memo until this morning when he got a round house hoof to the face (it's ok, he survived). GOOD NEWS, that knocked his ass down a peg.. yay for bitches.

Ok back to our regulary scheduled blog. Vero had forgotten everything in a week, but NOT TO FEAR that is the ugly side of 'horse training' - 2 steps forward, 367 steps back some weeks IT'S A-OK because guess what? After 3 days of "reminder training" boom bop BAM Vero had an awakening and decided "I do actually know how to stand here and not body slam people" .. so back to square one .. but it's better than negative square six which is where we started at the begining of this week. Pic for tax of Vero standing tied.

Later in the week, we again worked on slow work both on the ground & under saddle, and i think I want to see if this thing likes jumping? To be determined, but I like jumping so naturally he will hate it based off of what I have learned in our time together so far. Here's the question I know is on everyone's mind at this point - Lex, you literally run an OTTB aftercare PROGRAM - you have a pretty good choice of amazing horses - why the hell are you taking a horse you hate to RRP? GREAT QUESTION. Do I hate myself? Do i enjoy crying? Am i a masochist? I will let you know when i self reflect by staring 1" away from the mirror later and asking myself these questions. For now, I will tell you what i have been telling everyone else - i wanted a challenge and he is exactly that for me. He had a rough life post-track already, and i am hoping to show that you don't need the best, shinest, flawless horse from the track to make it. You can take one right out of the dumpster, clean him off, and boom - performance horse .. or something like that. I do plan to give him a proper bath at some point once his mammoth winter coats sheds out .. but for now, enjoy this picture of a̵ ̵w̵i̵l̵d̵ ̵m̵u̵s̵t̵a̵n̵g̵ Vero.
