Here is what we figured out so far - and what we're going to practice -
✅ Philly is learning patience. Young horses = short attention spans 🤦🏻♀️
✅ Girly got her left AND right leads today FIRST TRY! We only rode for 20 minutes total because she was so good -- the shorter rides sometimes are the most impactful while training a young/green horse!
✅ She really doesn't give a hoot about a lot, including the tractor today while it was moving cars all around the yard.
✅ Philly is learning to STOP when asked, instead of half stop and half move side to side
✅ As she is getting more confident under saddle, she is actually getting more forward. She's not naughty - just wanting to move out and I'm loving it! She came in as a kick/push ride believe it or not, and now if you kiss to her she's trotting off .. not bolting, just MOVING.
Take aways today are - that we still have to work on her standing still under saddle and while being mounted. You get on her and she starts moving at this point - which is not ideal. We're incorporating backing up as I ask her to halt - to get her brain to start putting together the pieces of halting = hind end engagement, and that it helping her a ton the past few rides.
We have some "snow" coming into NJ this weekend (booo!) so we'll be riding her tomorrow (Friday) then maybe trailering out to a friends indoor arena to get some ride time in on Sunday.
Here is a picture from my Nest camera of the little peanut standing tied while I get my boots on like a good little angel - gosh I just want to squish her little face she's so cute!
